How To Download & Install Java on MacBook: A Step by Step Guide

Java, a powerful and widely-used programming language, is essential for running various applications and websites whether one is a developer diving into a new project, a student tackling assignments, or simply a user needing Java for certain applications, installing Java on your MacBook is a straightforward process and in this guide just like the previous one, is a step by step guide on how to download and install Java on your MacBook, ensuring that it is up and running in no time.

STEP 1 - Using the terminal, check/confirm that you do not have Java installed on your MacBook using the following command (java -version) NB: For my case it is already installed as you can see below;

STEP 2 - Go to your preferred browser and type “Java” then click on the first link written “java.com > en” as seen from the screenshot below;

STEP 3 - After clicking one the link in STEP 2, it should direct you to the official Java website where you will see the “Download Java” button then click on it;

STEP 6 - On double clicking the “dmg” file, it should create a pop up window written “Java 8 Update 411” as seen from the screenshot below;

STEP 4 - After clicking on the “Download Java” button in STEP 3, it should direct you to another page where you will get a “Download Java for MacOS” then click on it;

STEP 5 - When Java has finished downloading, go to the folder where it is then double click on it;

STEP 7 - Double click on the “Java 8 Update 411” which creates another pop up window warning that the application is downloaded from the internet and whether you are sure you want to open it (of course depending on your Applications download settings) then click “Open” as seen from the screenshot below;

STEP 8 - After clicking “Open” from STEP 7 above, it creates another pop up window with two options “Install” and “Remove” whereby you should click on “Install” option as seen from the screenshot below;

STEP 9 - On clicking “Install” it creates another pop up window prompting you to enter the password for the installation to continue as seen below;

In summary, that is it, you have successfully installed Java on your MacBook and now ready to run Java applications, develop new projects, and explore the vast Java ecosystem but if you encounter any issues during the installation process, the official Oracle documentation and Java community forums are excellent resources for troubleshooting and support.

STEP 10 - After entering the password, the installation begins as shown below;

STEP 12 - To confirm Java installation on MacBook was successful, open the terminal an type “java -version” which should display the Java version installed as seen below;
